About this event

Hosts: Mark Toohey and Joy Cheung
Guest: Diane Sancilio, Renee Joyner, Arthur Grau

Topic
: Hospice Care 101

In this episode of the "TVIH Podcast/Living Well", Mark Toohey and Joy Cheung have invited Renee Joyner (RN) and Diane Sancilio from Gilchrist Hospice to our podcast studio. Gilchrist is a non-profit, hospice care provider in MD. Arthur Grau, a TVIH member and a volunteer at Gilchrist for 8 years, will also join us.

We will have a conversation on "hospice care", a topic that is important but most people do not want to talk about. However, one day we or our loved ones may need and benefit from the services offered by a hospice facility.

In today's podcast, we will discuss all aspects of hospice care: the planning, in-home hospice nurse visits, inpatient services at Gilchrist, payment for services, and the emotional toll on family members.

A Summary from
Diane Sancilio (Director of Counseling and Support at Gilchrist)

Join us for an honest conversation about hospice and the myths that often prevent families from seeking support when they need it most. We will discuss Gilchrist's long history of caring for Maryland families, what hospice truly means, and how it helps people focus on quality of life, comfort, and connection. Along the way, we will answer common questions, share experiences from our work, and offer practical guidance for anyone caring for a loved one facing a serious illness. Our hope is that viewers/listeners will leave feeling informed, reassured, and empowered to have these important conversations before a crisis occurs.
