Marjorie Merriweather Post purchased this home in 1955. She valued beauty, elegance and graciousness in her life. She maintained a strong eighteenth-century French decorating style that she developed in the 1920's. Tour the home and see the elegant French drawing room, Russian imperial art, & personal touches that made Hillwood one of Washington's most memorable homes.

Gardens: Hillwood's spectacular gardens and woodlands include thirteen acres of formal gardens extending from the house's terraces and porches in a progression of outdoor rooms. Each of these rooms, meant to complement the mansion's interior spaces, is private, yet connected to adjacent gardens, from the French parterre to the rose garden and onto the Friendship Walk.
